Job Description

The primary duties of the Safety Specialist will be to perform activities related to reviewing, evaluating, and analyzing manufacturing facility jobs and work stations/environments and completing Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) / Job Task Analyses (JTAs) and Ergonomic Analyses.The Safety Specialist will also develop step-by-step work instructions on all jobs evaluated and perform/document employee training conducted in order to control, eliminate, and prevent illnesses or injuries potentially caused by the identified safety and ergonomic factors.

  • Conduct safety related inspections and investigations with the Senior EHS manager and EHS department staff.

  • Assist in conducting safety training and education programs, and demonstrate and document/evaluate the use of required safety equipment.

  • Inspect and evaluate workplace environments, equipment, and practices, in order to ensure compliance with safety standards and government regulations.

  • Inspect specified areas to ensure the presence of fire prevention equipment, safety equipment, and first-aid supplies. 5) Participate in investigating accidents to identify causes and to determine how such accidents might be prevented in the future.

  • Update safety related programs as assigned.

  • Verify inventories of hazardous materials and hazardous wastes, using waste tracking systems to ensure that materials are handled properly.

  • Provide new-employee health and safety orientations and develop materials for these presentations.

  • Recommend measures to help protect workers from potentially hazardous work methods, processes, or materials.

Required Experience

  • 2 + years of demonstrated working knowledge in conducting Job Safety Analysis / Job Task Analysis (JSA/JTA), and Ergonomic Analyses, and recommending and implementing corrective actions

  • Associates’ or Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Safety Sciences, Environmental, Engineering or related field

  • Demonstrated working knowledge of federal, state and local EHS regulations and requirements

  • Computer skills in MS Office, particularly Outlook, Excel, & Word

  • Ability to take innovative approaches to improve processes and solve problems

  • Must be detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills

  • Must be dependable self-starter with the ability to work in team environment

  • Position reports directly to the Senior EHS Manager
