American Outdoor Brands Corporation Engineering Technician in Columbia, Missouri

Position Overview:

American Outdoor Brands was forged in innovation and the desire to produce products that support the everyday shooter, hunter, defender, and outdoorsman. AOB is coveted for its leading innovative product development capabilities and processes. The Engineering Technician is a key supporter within the Product Development department, assisting with new product design prototyping, developing and executing product test plans, maintenance and supervision of the Product Development armory, basic gunsmithing and firearm maintenance projects, and assisting with engineering documentation and change notices. The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills, self-motivation, and experience with hunting, shooting, and outdoor accessories.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support and collaborate with Product Engineer(s), Electrical Engineer(s), Liaison Engineer(s), and Product Designer(s) on products in active development, specifically assisting with:

  • Prototyping of products in development

  • Development of testing procedures [Design Verification Plan(s) and Report(s) - DVP&R(s)]

  • Executing test procedures during prototyping, off-tool sampling, pre-production, and post-production

  • Maintenance of engineering documentation

  • Processing Engineering Change Requests, and executing Engineering Change Notices

  • Maintenance and Supervision of the Product Development Armory:

  • Basic gunsmithing projects

  • Firearm maintenance (cleaning, repair, etc..)

  • Maintaining inventory logs, check-in/check-out procedures for firearms, and repair logs

  • Rapid prototyping capabilities and proficiency, including but not limited to 3D printing, CNC machining, sourcing of standard components, improvisation, and etc.

  • Strong presentation and communication skills, and the ability to lead meetings

  • Strong organization skills, multi-tasking capabilities, and active priority management skills

  • Adhere to and improve the company's New Product Introduction Process (NPI)

  • Collaborate with purchasing, marketing, and supply base in relation to NPI

  • Collaborate with Suppliers and Manufacturers, as needed, in support of products in development

  • Build and maintain professional, constructive working relationships with other departments and with suppliers

  • Resolve quality and customer support issues by lending expertise to respective departments

  • Work safely as well as identify and report any safety hazards immediately

  • Maintain good housekeeping in personal area and all common areas

  • Other responsibilities as assigned

    Education and Experience:

  • Education: Associates or Technical Certificate in Machining, Gunsmithing, Engineering Technology, or Equivalent preferred

  • Experience: 5+ years of experience preferred

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office

  • Experience operating and maintaining 3D printing equipment

  • Experience operating and maintaining CNC Mill(s), CNC Lathe(s), and other standard shop equipment

  • Experience with basic gunsmithing and maintenance of firearms

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Firearms industry experience desired

  • Pro Engineer/CAD skills preferred

  • Travel domestically and internationally to suppliers to evaluate off tool samples, create and implement test requirements and procedures, and etc..

  • Total Travel: 2-3 weeks per year

    Physical Demands:

    Regular and predictable attendance is required.

  • Some work is required in "off-hours" for business meetings/company events.

  • Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time in front of a computer.

  • Ability to move about facility on regular basis to perform physical activities, such as, but not limited to, lifting heavy equipment (up to 50 lbs. unassisted), bending, standing, climbing or walking.

  • Visual and hearing acuity.

Work Environment and Personal Protective Equipment:

General office environment, with some exposure to plant environment, with fork lift and other general hazards.

Exposure to the outdoors, unstable ground, and some climbing
