Job Description

Our client, a large biotechnology company is currently seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer.

Summary of Job Description

This is mechanical engineering position with an emphasis on engineering design of complex medical instruments. This individual will collaborate with R&D engineering staff to produce CAD models with a heavy emphasis on creating engineering drawings.

Position Requirements:

  • Experience with designing and creating engineering drawings for mechanical components and assemblies.

  • Experience creating engineering drawings of electrical cable assemblies based on design input from electrical engineers.

  • Candidate must be well grounded in mechanical engineering design principles and fabrication and assembly techniques for plastic molded parts.

  • Candidate must be able to produce detailed fabrication and assembly drawings.

  • Strong conceptual design skills and creativity needed to generate various concept designs for evaluation.

  • Ability to discuss designs with tool makers for manufacturability.

  • Ability to work in accordance with internal needs, design control guidelines and Quality requirements within the company’s quality system and regulated FDA environment.

  • Takes tasks with minimal guidance and follows them through to completion.

Typical experience, skills and qualifications:

  • Education/Experience: BS in Mechanical Engineering with 3-5 or more years’ work experience or Associates Degree/technical certificate plus 10 years’ experience designing electro- mechanical systems, equipment and components. Medical device or diagnostics industry or a relevant field preferred but not required.

  • Training/proficiency in SolidWorks, PLM systems (Windchill preferred), Design for Manufacturability, engineering drawing standards including GD&T, CAD modeling, rapid prototyping.
