Smart Warehousing Continuous Improvement Manager in Independence, Missouri

Description of Position:

Smart Warehousing is adding a Continuous Improvement Manager to our team. This individual is responsible for assisting in the success of warehouse operations by ensuring all policies and standard operating procedures are being followed. This position will be challenged to implement best practices when possible to provide our customers an exemplary level of service. This role will partner with local leadership to drive inventory accuracy, efficient warehouse organization, on-time order and receipt processing and effective / timely customer communication. This role is also focused on operational excellence, process improvement and assisting / training local staff on the deployment of daily work flow, increasing warehouse efficiencies and driving “best in class” quality. This position will be required to perform site assessments and make immediate changes to improve process flow, eliminate waste and to improve overall accuracy and the efficiency of the facility. May complete other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities:

  • Establishes and maintains program of Operational Excellence and Culture throughout Smart Warehousing

  • Motivates, organizes and fosters teamwork within the workforce

  • Researches, identifies, and implements best practices to ensure lean processes are in place

  • Assesses, analyzes, and interprets metrics to determine current and future state of warehouse productivity

  • Conducts equipment evaluations to ensure optimal productivity

  • Creates and distributes action plans

  • Conducts time studies to evaluate operational efficiency

  • Gathers data, creates reports and makes recommendations to senior management

  • Trains, coaches and partners with warehouse leadership to ensure SOPs and processes are followed

  • Drafts and updates SOPs

  • Creates, manages and tracks KPIs and metrics on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis

  • Drives profitability and generates revenue by identifying and eliminating non-value-added activities and recognizing missed opportunities

  • Leads operational teams and projects with individuals from various parts of the organization

  • Develops warehouse design by planning layout, product flow, and product handling systems

  • Provides operations management and customer support as needed

  • Completes other duties as assigned by VP of Facilities Management

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of core education and related professional experience

  • Previous Operations Management experience

  • Continuous Improvement background (Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen, 5S)

  • Prior experience in logistics/distribution/warehousing/manufacturing environments.

  • Experience with MS Office applications (Outlook, Word & Excel), web navigation & basic hardware

  • Strong oral and written communication, problem solving and interpersonal skills; ability to quickly build rapport with both customer and business units

  • Proven record of accomplishment in taking initiative to accomplish tasks in creative ways with a sense of urgency and assertiveness

  • Proven track record of performance (eliminating waste / increasing EBITDA)

  • Ability to move up to 50lbs.

  • Up to 50% travel
