General Electric Autonomy Engineer - Perception in Jefferson City, Missouri

Role Summary:

Avitas Systems is looking for an Autonomy Engineer - Perception to join its emerging inspections business team. You will work with Avitas Systems, GE Global Research, GE Business teams to research, design and architect commercial grade robotics inspection solutions for industrial assets.

Essential Responsibilities:

In the role of Autonomy Engineer - Perception, you will:

  • Work with GE Global Research and Avitas Systems’ SW engineering, analytics, and operations teams to develop robotics perception solutions for deployment on commercial grade robotic inspection system

  • Develop custom SLAM and perception solutions suitable for asset relative navigation, sense and avoid, object detection and tracking, and navigation in cluttered environments

  • Deploy perceptions solutions on UAVs, crawlers, subsea, and ground robots

  • Work with ROS, OpenCV, Gazebo, PCL & Stay up to date on perception algorithms, perception sensors, and sensor fusion Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Ph.D. in Robotics, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college or university with a minimum of 1 year of robotics experience (industrial or academic) OR MS Degree in Robotics, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college or university with a minimum of 3 years of robotics experience (industrial or academic) Eligibility Requirements

  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. GE may agree to sponsor an individual for an employment visa now or in the future if there is a shortage of individuals with particular skills.

  • Must be willing to travel 10%

  • Must be willing to work out of an office in Boston, MA or Niskayuna, NY Desired Characteristics:

  • Experience with Embedded Linux, microcontrollers and/or FPGAs

  • Experience with Continuous Integration & Continuous Deployment (CI-CD)

  • Experience with Agile / SCRUM methodologies

  • Experience in an industrial domain (e.g. oil & gas, energy, transportation, etc.)

  • Demonstrated ability to convert high-level customer needs into a technical development strategy

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Communicate effectively both in written and oral English
