Role Purpose:

Manage systematic processes for compilation of timely and accurate medical records for each patient encounter. Responsible for daily operations of medical record services, ensuring accurate and timely workflow, manage effective storage and retrieval. Takes leadership responsibility to timely identify and resolve issues which inhibit department functioning and/or service delivery. Responsible for evaluation of work performance timely problem identification and resolution, and recommending appropriate personnel actions. Maintain personnel files and human resource documentation.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage systematic processes for compilation of timely and accurate medical records for each patient encounter.
  • Responsible for daily operations of medical record services, ensuring accurate and timely workflow, manage effective storage and retrieval.
  • Assures a smooth flow of high quality transcribed reports from time of dictation until time of delivery to destination. Coordinate and monitor outside transcription services.
  • Support physician dictation functions, incomplete record completion, and suspension list compilation activities.
  • Ensure appropriate staffing patterns and appropriate skill and knowledge level of staff. Recruit, hire, and ensure training for new staff, as well as orient all staff as needed.
  • Takes leadership responsibility to timely identify and resolve issues which inhibit department functioning and/or service delivery.
  • Responsible for evaluation of work performance timely problem identification and resolution, and recommending appropriate personnel actions. Maintain personnel files and human resource documentation.
  • Communicate effectively and regularly with staff, Director and customer groups. Meet with staff and Director on a regular basis.
  • Establish, monitor, and achieve productivity standards and goals. Compile and make available information related to volumes, turnaround times, and quality.
  • Participate in developing and implementing department budgets, goals and action plans. Provide monitoring throughout the year to ensure achievement of goals.
  • Maintains state of the art skills, attend inservices and other self development activities as needed.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum education level of Associate’s degree required.
  • Current RHIA, RHIT, CMT, or other HIM related credentials preferred with 3 years HIM work experience and continuing education. Minimum of 1 year of supervisory experience required.
  • Excellent leadership skills, written and oral communication skills, and excellent interpersonal relations and problem solving. Knowledge of computer systems, interfaces, and willingness to learn new applications and programs. Ability to teach/train others. Adaptability to changing environment.
