The Research Informatics and Data Science team is a critical part of the Children’s Mercy Research Institute (CMRI). The work of the CMRI generates high volume, high complexity data that requires world-class computational capabilities and often requires custom application development. The Director of Research Informatics Engineering provides senior leadership to technical teams in Research Informatics. The Director provides technical direction and strategic guidance to the engineering groups with an emphasis on quality and alignment with the users of these systems. The Director engages with researchers to assess their needs and goals and design optimal solutions in close coordination with the other leaders in Research Informatics. The Director works closely and collaboratively with counterparts in IS to ensure security and integrity of the systems developed and supported by Research Informatics. She/he also works closely with external partners.


The Director provides senior leadership to systems and software architecture and development for the Research Institute . Works with members of the team to develop strategic design for applications, systems, interfaces and databases to ensure that all that researchers achieve their goals.

Expert in contemporary software engineering and data management platforms and processes and leadership of strategic initiatives. High level of proficiency with .NET, SQL, web development. Experience with cloud architecture, data warehouse strategies and mobile application development. High level of professionalism reflected in written and verbal communication. Substantial experience working with scientific stakeholders in clinical, academic and/or industry setting(s). Significant experience with formal quality processes and with HIPAA, security and privacy requirements for human subjects research. Experience leading diverse group of technical experts.

Preferred: Knowledge of bioinformatics and laboratory analytical pipelines and workflows. Experience developing and managing 3rdparty partnerships. Experience with major cloud platform (AWS or Azure). Has led the development of widely utilized applications and platforms.


Masters of Computer science or related field.

Starting Pay

Our pay ranges are market competitive. The pay range for this job begins at $52.24, but your offer will be determined based on your education and experience.
