WABTEC Engineering Support Technician in Kansas City, Missouri
Wabtec Global Serviceshas an immediate opening for anEngineering Support Technicianto join our Field Services team inKansas City, MO.
Engineering Support Technicianwith appropriate experience to build, test, and document equipment, harnesses, and other service products. This will also include some maintenance of in-house and customer equipment. They will be expected to interface with both internal personnel and customers as needed and be expected to technically assist other electronics personnel. Writing technical documents will also be required.
Understand and follow schematics, assembly drawings and technical procedures.
Diagnose & troubleshoot electronics to the component level safely using the appropriate test equipment
Provide technical expertise in performing customer non-conforming product evaluation test, troubleshooting and repair of field test failures as required
Perform PCB, harness, and test modification skills on a technical level.
Typing ability to complete forms electronically.
Work with a minimum amount of supervision.
Computer system functional knowledge required:
Operating systems: Windows req, DOS, Linux, C++, & Python all a plus)
MS Office programs (Word, Outlook, Excel req, PowerPoint & Visio helpful)
An Associate’s Degree or Certificate in Electronics Technology from a two-year college, technical school or equivalent Military service training.
Minimum 10 years of related experience (engineering experience a plus)
Possess excellent soldering skills in both through hole and/ or surface (IPC certification a plus)
Equipment building skills using common power tools (drill, saw, and paint with aluminum and steel)
Equipment familiarity and operational experience with DMMs, Frequency Counters, Spectrum Analyzers, Oscilloscopes, and other common electronics test equipment.
Strong background in electronics with a focus on microprocessor technology.
Strong troubleshooting skills, able to quickly pin point failed component on circuit board.
Accomplished problem solver; able to assess options, establish priorities and influence change.
Self starter, good communication skills, able to work as a team member.
Organized, detailed oriented and able to multi-task.
Technical writing skills to include: Writing test plans and procedures, change orders, etc.
Support testing hardware and software against the system requirements and interface specification documents.
Familiarity with UL, OSHA, ARR, and other regulatory guidelines as necessary
Up to 15% travel may be required.
Physically able to climb ladders and able to push, pull, lift or carry up to 40 lbs on an occasional basis
