Burns & McDonnell Entry-Level Geotechnical Engineer in Kansas City, Missouri


Job responsibilities of an entry level Geotechnical Engineer will include, but are not limited to, the following tasks:

  • Performing geotechnical engineering analyses, design and evaluation related to shallow and deep foundation systems, settlement analyses, slope stability evaluations, retaining structures, consideration of seismic effects, and earthwork.

  • Preparation and review of engineering design calculations, reports, specifications and construction documents, and other technical documents as needed.

  • Development of work scopes, subsurface exploration oversight, and management of site investigation subcontracts.

  • Field assignments associated with site investigation activities and in support of foundation and earthwork construction activities.

The selected candidate will perform assignments under the supervision of senior level geotechnical engineers. Field assignment time will be dependent upon project requirements.


Candidates will have 0 to 2 years of experience in geotechnical engineering, consulting, design, and construction. Candidates will hold a Masters degree in geotechnical engineering from an ABET accredited college or university. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are required. Experience in using Ensoft and FAD tools programs, and familiarity with other analytical techniques, is preferred. Candidates will have excellent English language written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work independently or with a team. The individual must have completed the FE exam and have the ability to obtain PE (Professional Engineer) registration within three years of employment.Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently (i.e. without time limitations, without restrictions or without need for work sponsorship) in the country where this position is located.
