Burns & McDonnell Staff Mechanical Designer in Kansas City, Missouri

Description

A Staff Mechanical Designer will perform various phases of planning, proposal support, site evaluations, system equipment sizing, report preparation, system design, 3D modeling and coordination of systems with other disciplines, and preparation of construction documentation and mechanical plans as part of a project team. This position will work on various projects with a diverse portfolio of project types and clients.

Job Duties Include:

  • Perform a variety of assignments using prescribed methods and standard techniques including drawing sequence and presentation, incorporating various system components, and refining rough sketches.

  • Produce complete plumbing iso's, HVAC control diagrams from verbal or written description from the design engineer.

  • Execute basic formulas, principles and practices, and use acquired knowledge of fundamental concepts and practices pertaining to the process discipline.

  • Execute changes to designs or sketches and redlines or mark-ups on ongoing projects.

  • Interpret and incorporate design codes and specifications related to mechanical HVAC and plumbing design requirements.

  • Review design drawings for quality assurance within scope, budget and schedule.

  • Compute calculations for layouts, equipment performance and schematics.

  • Coordinate with other disciplines to effectively and efficiently route systems.

  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Well developed EQ skills to effectively guide thinking and behavior.

  • Bachelor’s degree in drafting or engineering technology or related field and six years related experience, or associate's degree and eight years related experience, or ten years progressive detailing and design experience.

  • Minimum of six years of experience with design software such as: Revit, Navisworks, AutoCAD, MicroStation, and Excel to develop the design deliverables.

  • Experience working with laser scanning on Revit projects.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with others (Project Managers, Engineers and Designers) in a multi-discipline project team environment to resolve design or drawing issues as appropriate and to accomplish objectives.

  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills.

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills, and attention to detail.
