The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated ability to understand the application of engineering fundamentals on traffic engineering design and planning projects for a variety of clients, particularly states and municipalities. This position is with our Midwest traffic team.A candidate for this position should have strong listening and communication skills with the ability to write materials and develop plans that relay a clear message. Additionally, we are seeking someone who is eager to learn, is a team player and takes ownership of their work. The primary types of projects the candidate will be assigned include signing and pavement marking design, traffic signal and lighting design, maintenance of traffic design along with planning projects related to traffic impact studies, safety analysis, capacity analysis, and simulation modeling.Basic Qualifications:Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university Certified as an Engineer-in-Training, or the ability to attain within six (6) months of employmentProficient in Microsoft OfficeProficient in Microsoft OfficeKnowledge of the MUTCD, AASHTO Green Book, Highway Capacity Manual, ITE Trip Generation ManualKnowledge of various engineering software design systems, such as MicroStationKnowledge of various capacity analysis software, such as Synchro and VISSIM Preferred Qualifications of Candidates with 0-4 years of experience:Masters Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited universityPreferred Qualifications of Candidates with 4-8 years of experience:Masters Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited universityLicensed Professional EngineerPTOE certificationGeneral Duties and ResponsibilitiesReceives instructions from a Project Manager or Senior Project Engineer as to the assigned tasks, budget for tasks, and general results expected.Conducts field work for the collection of traffic data, such as traffic counts, vehicle spot speed studies, sight distance measurements, delay studies, gap studies, etc. Prepares plans, specifications, quantities and cost estimates for the design of traffic engineering components of projects (including but not limited to, intersection geometry, signing and pavement markings, traffic signals, signal interconnect, roadway lighting, ITS, construction sequencing and work zone traffic control).Prepares traffic safety studies, traffic impact studies, and small-scale planning studies.Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing professional networks; participating in professional societies.
