Burns & McDonnell Assistant Network Design Engineer in Saint Louis, Missouri
Our Transmission & Distribution global practice is looking for an Assistant Network Design Engineer in our St. Louis office. The Assistant Network Design Engineer will be responsible for engineering design and technical oversight of network deployment projects. Major responsibilities for the Assistant Network Design Engineer will include:
Design MPLS networks over dark fiber, DWDM, and/or microwave utilizing client standards or developing new standards. Project deliverables may include:
Network topology plans
Physical Network Topology (GIS)
Network design reports:
Routing protocol selection
IP address planning
Capacity planning for applications
Quality of service (QoS) implantation
Network synchronization strategy
Router security design
Application security design
Application cutover plans
IP address assignments
Lab and production test plans
Execute complex assignments requiring the use of advanced tools and techniques, resulting in the development of new or improved processes, equipment and/or technological methods.
Provide support to customers in field of expertise
Assist in the creation of a MPLS deployment training program
Identify, communicate and resolve issues on projects as needed.
Work in multi-vendor environments (Nokia, Cisco, Juniper) with typical project requirements to integrate multiple vendors.
Provide leadership, guidance and instruction to less experienced staff members.
Work with the project manager to establish project schedule and lead the engineering team to meet deadlines.
Work closely with the project team to ensure deliverables and services are being provided to client’s satisfaction and that projects are following internal QA/QC guidelines.
Perform design quality reviews.
Regularly meet and correspond with clients or outside personnel to develop relationships with key client points of contact.
Prepare proposals and assist in presentations.
Other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited program.
1-3 years of professional experience
Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Must be capable of applying intensive and diversified knowledge of principles and practices to broad areas of assignments.
Previous consulting experience.
Previous utility company experience.
Experience with MPLS technology
