DescriptionApex Systemsis looking for aBiochemistin theSTL area!Position Summary: This position is for a drug discovery scientist to focus on the design, development, and execution ofbiochemical and enzymatic assays that are critical for the company to meet its goals. Training in biochemistry, enzymology, or biophysics is required. Reporting to the Director of Biochemistry, you will participate in both internal and contract drug discovery research as part of a team of scientists in afluid team environment. Efficient and effective execution is critical.Responsibilities: Hands-on laboratory researcher focused on drug discovery Devise, design, and execute experimental protocols based on methodology from internal experience, provided by partner companies, or from published literature Define the necessary reagents, supplies, and instrumentation to conduct assays Effectively analyze experimental data, interpret findings and suggest next steps Maintain clear notebooks and properly archive protocols and data Present results to and write reports for both internal and partner company stake holdersRequirements: B.S./M.S in relevant scientific field 5+ years of relevant experience in drug discovery Proficiency in the design and execution of plate-based assays with multiple technology formats, e.g. Luminescence, fluorescence intensity, fluorescence polarization, TR-FRET, AlphaScreen, etc. Experience in enzyme characterization and/or inhibitor studies Understanding of the principles underlying drug:target interactions Preferred skills include label-free detection and analysis of time-dependent inhibition Familiarity with relevant biochemical / biological technologies and techniques, e.g. Molecular biology, cell culture, protein expression and purification, cell-based assays, ELISA, FACS, IHC, etc. Critical thinking and data interpretation skills Ability to organize time and work independently Ability to work in a mutually-supportive team environment with quickly changing responsibilities Ability to handle confidential materialVEVRAA Federal ContractorWe request Priority Protected Veteran and Disabled Referrals for all of our locations within the state.We are an equal opportunity employer.
