The Boeing Company Instrumentation Operations Engineer- Junior Level in Saint Louis, Missouri

The Boeing Company is seeking an Instrumentation Operations Engineer-Junior level to join the team in St. Louis, MO. The ideal candidate must be able to work a variable shift schedule when needed and be able to travel frequently.

This position will support the flight test team by developing and operating flight instrumentation electro/mechanical design solutions of varying complexity.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Design test hardware, software and systems to achieve test requirements. Identifies required products, systems, components, materials, and manufacturing processes / technologies

  • Generates electrical schematics using AutoCAD

  • Coordinates system fabrication, integration, modification, setup, checkout and teardown

  • Identifies test requirements and determines test methods

  • Obtains flight clearances from the customer for installed configurations

  • Troubleshoots and resolves instrumentation system, transducer, and test-related problems

  • Analyzes, reviews and validates test data to ensure flight test instrumentation hardware and software readiness

  • Conducts research in test technologies to improve efficiency and capability

  • Interfaces with project / program team members, management, and technical staff to define and implement test engineering solutions

  • Performs functions as required to ensure flight instrumentation system readiness and data validity

  • Periodic shift change and occasional domestic relocation travel required.

  • This position may fly onboard the P-8A. This requires candidates:

    o a) To maintain a FAA class 3 flight physical.

    o b) To complete training in full flight gear (helmet, gloves, boots, flight suit, parachute harness and survival vest). Training includes a surface swim, treading water, drown proofing, egress underwater swim, orally inflating a life vest, and a hypobaric chamber flight.

    o c) To meet seat safety requirements, candidates must not exceed 250lbs.

This position requires an active Secret U.S. Security Clearance. (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active.)

Basic/Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's and 2 or more years' experience or a Master's degree with experience. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry

  • This position may fly onboard the P-8A. This requires candidates:

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience planning and executing instrumentation activities for test programs

  • Experience designing, operating, and troubleshooting instrumentation systems for military aircraft programs

  • Experience with the principles of flight test and experience directly supporting flight test operations

  • Experience with precision test and measurement devices

  • Experience with instrumentation and/or data acquisition systems

Typical Education/Experience:

Degree and typical experience in engineering classification: Bachelor's and 2 or more years' experience or a Master's degree with experience. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
