Job Description & Qualifications

Job Summary

Supervise the administration and processing of time and earnings records of the company for all associates.

Major Tasks, Responsibilities and Key Accountabilities

  • Participates in the evaluation of computerized payroll system products and companies and makes appropriate recommendations.

  • Develops, recommends, and implements systems and procedural changes for the Payroll Department.

  • Supervises distribution and completion of workloads within specific areas of department

  • Responds to requests, projects and inquiries from management.

  • Provides information, possible solutions and research to coworkers and directs reports.

  • Responds to problems from other departments and associates that cannot be resolved at the direct report level.

  • Monitors the flow of the payroll process, solving problems and providing direction, assuring adherence to schedules.

  • Assumes responsibility for all payroll-related exceptions.

Nature and Scope

  • Experience provides solutions.

  • Ensures that work is performed consistently with Core & Main's policies and procedures.

  • Leads a group or team of support, craft, or lower level professional associates.

Work Environment

  • Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.

  • No travel required.

  • Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be eighteen years of age

  • Must pass the Drug Test

  • Must pass the Background Check

  • Must pass pre-employment tests if applicable

Education and Experience

  • Typically requires BS/BA in a related discipline. Generally 5+ years experience in a related field. May require certification. Advanced degree may offset less experience in some disciplines.

Preferred Qualifications & Job Specific Details

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) strongly preferred.

  • Multi-state payroll experience required.

  • 3-5 years management experience of payroll function and staff preferred.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, or related field is preferred.

  • Three to four years of experience with computerized payroll systems and procedures is preferred.
