The Boeing Company Systems Safety Engineer - Air Worthiness Engineer in Saint Louis, Missouri

Boeing Defense & Space site, is seeking an experienced individual to lead the System Safety and Environmental Engineering activities on an unmanned cargo air vehicle. The selected candidate will be tasked to lead critical system safety work in support of FAA certification. The work will consist of leading detailed system safety tasks such as system and subsystem hazard analysis, fault tree analysis, sneak circuit analysis, and software safety analysis. Typical tasks include, but not limited to: documenting hazard analysis and risk assessments (e.g. safety assessment reports, hazard notification, and hazardous material reports), analysis and control of hardware, software, and chemical hazards.

Additional Tasks: * Role will include supporting design activities to provide advice and counsel on pertinent regulatory, safety and environmental requirements, reviewing preliminary configurations, and strengthening integration of hazard and chemical risk management practices.

  • The selected candidate will also assist with the evaluation of customer/operational needs to define system performance requirements and derived safety requirements, as well integration of technical parameters to assure compatibility of physical, functional, and program interfaces.

  • Provide relevant input/guidance to analyses for affordability, reliability & maintainability, human systems integration, survivability, vulnerability, susceptibility, system security, regulatory, certification, product assurance and other quality factors that drive a preferred configuration that ensures mission success.

    These tasks are accomplished within a collaborative environment with other Boeing teams and businesses to assist with and/or plan, design, develop and verify a lifecycle balanced system solution.

    Degree and typical experience in engineering classification:

    Bachelor's 14 or more years' experience, Master's with 12 or more years' experience or PhD with 9 or more years' experience. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry.

    ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

    Familiarity with operational regulatory requirements (FAA/DOD/DCMA)

    This position requires an active Secret U.S. Security Clearance. (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active.)
