DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: * Primary DutiesConducts work in a manner that is compliant with the Quality System and all ISO 17025 requirements. * Analyze customer samples using a variety of methods and equipment. * Ensure testing is documented properly. * Ensure all chemicals are properly labeled, stored and utilized following the Chemical Hygiene Plan and SOP's. * Monitors inventory and supplies as needed. * Participate in monthly inventory counting. * Performs equipment calibrations and preventative maintenance and documents accordingly. * Participates successfully in internal and external split sample program. * Clean and organize chemistry laboratory. * Enters test results in LIMS accurately. * Peer reviews sample results to ensure accuracy. * Troubleshoots equipment problems to minimize downtime. * Recognize when equipment issues require additional expertise. Additional Responsibilities * Assist with installation, up and training for new equipment * Follows safety procedures and makes recommendations for improvement. * Assist with training of new employees. * Troubleshoot equipment problems with vendor reps. * Other duties as assigned by by the Chemistry Manager. * Assists with new method development, as requested. Requirements Education and Experience * Minimum of a Bachelor's degree - BS in Biology with a Chemistry minor at least 25 hrs. of chemistry to include Organic I and II. * Prefer BS in Chemistry and at least 2 years of prior food chemistry laboratory experience. Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities * Ability to multi-task and work quickly while maintaining accuracy. * Understanding of normality, molarity and percent solutions. * Ability to prepare samples for analysis according to protocols and approved standard methods and monitors the testing process to observe validity of procedure and unanticipated reactions and adjusts testing procedures as needed. * Ability to assess the appropriateness of methods for given matrices in order to obtain accurate and valid results. * Ability to follow quality control and quality assurance protocols to ensure the validity of test results and safety of the work environment. * Ability to identify data discrepancies.
