Director, Technical Services -Microbiology and Research Location:2835 N Oak Grove AveSpringfield, Missouri, 65803United StatesCompany: CompanyReq Num: req7171 Job Description Oversee the Microbiology and Research departments for the Springfield, MO location. Responsibilities include observation and evaluation of microbiological procedures and projects, managing laboratory workflows and mentoring of staff, interaction with the customer base, and continuous evaluation and enforcement of the 17025 Quality Policy. Promote the expansion of microbiological services offered by enhancing current programs, monitoring changes in regulatory policies for multiple industries, and implementing new methods in response to industry changes and business needs. Duties and Responsibilities:Microbiology Department:- Oversee Microbiology/Media Laboratories to ensure quality process and that strategic goals and objectives are met:- Lead training efforts to ensure matrix training for all staff. Ensure all policies and procedures are current- Work in tandem with Director- Microbiology- NY to ensure all testing platforms are validated for use by matrix. Evaluate new technologies for fit and purpose to incorporate the laboratory service offerings- Provide direct supervision of staff to ensure testing is completed on time and per approved procedures. Scheduling of employees to ensure proper coverage and efficient work-flow- Mentor and assist microbiologists in implementation of new methods to expand portfolio of services- Identify and implement cost cutting initiatives and streamline processes for operational efficiency- Evaluate methods to ensure they are current including method references, equipment used and LIMS components- Monitor customer data and communicate trends in testing and provide proactive communication to customers- Provide technical support and consulting services to internal and external clients regarding microbial testing results, impacts, trends and mitigation strategies- Partner with the LIMS administrator to implement new analysis, workflows and reports to support the internal as well as customer needs- Oversee training programs to ensure all microbiologists and media personnel are properly trained- Engage media type and vendor evaluations to ensure best in class use of media for optimal recovery of all microorganisms Research Department:- Prepare research proposals regarding shelf life, microbial challenge, and/or formulation risk assessment based on customer requirements- Performance of internal and external validation studies for matrix extension, method validation according to FDA/AOAC /USDA guidance- Ensure alignment with customers on expected outcomes and ensure alignment with NACMF guidelinesOther:- Ensure departments are compliant with the Quality System QS:- Ensure enforcement of the current QS Manual Evaluate and evaluate the current quality policy and suggest changes regarding Standard Operating Procedures, forms, tests, and training- Ensure internal auditing is performed and any CAR/PAR s are completed- Monitor proficiency testing results and PAR/CAR data for trends and implement procedures/policies for improvement- Expand industry certifications and identify opportunities to add value for customer base- Oversee Employee Safety Program- Ensure safety policies/procedures are followed- Ensure all employee training is completed and documented- Oversee and approve records for equipment calibrations, preventative maintenance and quality control records- Ability to define and resolve problems through critical evaluation of issues- Ability to interface with the public as a representative of Chestnut Labs.
