The Environmental Technician is an integral part of the AMRI team and contributes to our success by assisting the EHS Manager in all aspects of EHS Compliance. The position will focus on and is expected to learn Euticals Environmental Permits and assume responsibility for compliance with Water permits, Corrective Action and RCRA permits. The employee is expected to advance to become an Environmental Specialist and accept more EHS responsibilities and required knowledge.
_Essential functional duties of the position_
Track monthly sampling requirements of the POTW and NPDES Permit and assure all required samples are gathered and submitted as required in the Permits.
Understand and perform proper wastewater sampling as required in EPA protocols pertaining to the all Euticals permits requiring water sampling.
Read and understand lab reports and determine if the plant is still in compliance.
Understand plant wastewater operations to help the plant trouble shoot permit exceedances, determine root causes and develop plans to prevent further violations.
Report on findings both internally and externally.
Organize, analyze, evaluate and compile data into appropriate spreadsheets, reports and other required formats.
Ship both hazardous and non-hazardous environmental samples.
Manage hazardous waste tracking in the plant and complete associated reports on their required regular basis.
Understand and learn the RCRA rules regarding waste handling, disposal and storage of all plant waste types. Determine the best disposal options within the RCRA rules.
Assure all paperwork required for shipments is properly filled out and all containers are properly labeled. Match up profiles and assure the load is DOT and RCRA compliant.
Assure the groundwater recovery and treatment systems are operating properly and in compliance with the Corrective Action Permit.
Perform physical aspect of jobs associated with all these compliance activities.
Prepare reports for all the above mentioned permits.
Learn and/or understand DOT and IATA shipping requirements Ability to prepare materials for shipping in compliance with these regulations
The following knowledge and proficiency skills are required for this position to be acquired through a minimum of a Bachelor degree in a related field such as chemistry, chemical engineering or environmental studies. Another bachelor degree can be accepted along with industry experience.
Solid MS Office Skills -MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint and/or Access
Ability to learn applicable environmental regulations
Experience in Environmental compliance activities is preferred
Ability to work in both an office and field environment
Ability to instruct others both in a classroom environment on courses or on activities associated with EH&S compliance
Written and verbal communication skills are required.
Problem solving, analytical and negotiation skills are necessary
Must be a team player both within the department and in relation to other plant departments
