The Control Systems Field Engineer role supports the Weir Group through the effective design, analysis and delivery and maintenance/field support of control systems & condition monitoring equipment including the “Synertrex” proprietary sensing technologies applied to Weir products in the Minerals division. The candidate must possess the technical expertise to maintain, develop, troubleshoot and validate these systems in a compliant manner.
The Control Systems Field Engineer role is responsible for supporting the automation and control systems design, specification recommendations, programming, simulation, testing and start-up assistance. This includes the Synertrex branded control systems & condition monitoring equipment as well as predictive maintenance algorithms & solutions.
Responsibilities include working closely with Key Product Management Team and other key stakeholders to understand the business requirements and use cases; to design the equipment technical installation specification; assisting in the development and testing of new sensor technology, supporting field installations as well as rollout and system configuration (deployment) and algorithm development. The candidate will be responsible for automation and control systems design recommendations, specification recommendations, programming, simulation, testing and customer start-up assistance.
Requirements Capture and Integration
Acquire a detailed understanding of all of the different automation systems (distributed control systems, programmable logic controllers, SCADA systems).

Responsible for studying the overall business’ requirements in order to specify control and condition monitoring equipment for Weir Minerals products. Produce functional requirements documents.
Works closely with stakeholders to identify needs and opportunities. Conducts product and integrated system use case analysis for pumps.
Control and Condition Monitoring Equipment
Specifies and documents control and condition monitoring equipment based on the requirements, including interface specifications, policies, and recommended technologies.
Works closely with internal stakeholders and external vendors and subject matter experts to develop the equipment specification.
Guides and assists in the implementation of new systems, solution modifications and expansions.
Assists with end to end project delivery - from conception, prototype through to post delivery and support.
Quickly identifies opportunities, issues, risks and challenges to the business and stakeholders from a systems and data integration perspective.
Identifies applicable standards and regulations and ensures Weir equipment meets those requirements.
Selects and troubleshoots hardware components (e.g. power supply, antenna, etc.) to support installation and field service.
Support site installation & commissioning activities and ongoing customer issues (level 1 system support). Data Analysis and Algorithm Development
Work with Weir Minerals Technology Teams to analyze field data and combine this with physical product data to establish trends in maintenance phenomena.
Develop installation guidelines in compliance with applicable electrical guidelines such as CE, UL and NEC codes.
Work with relevant stakeholders in developing solutions for customers with respect to algorithm development that refines our ability to predict failures and improve health, performance and life of the pump.
Work with platform level data scientists (internal & external).Governance
Ensures solution implementations across the Minerals Pumps division align to the technology framework / architecture.
Maintains technical knowledge of hardware and software deployed in solutions.
Testing and validation of mechatronics technologies and ensure the implementation meets the system requirements for pumps.Project Management
Coordinates implementation of technology within projects.

Maintain strong working relationship with Synertrex platform development team and represent the needs of the pumps division.

Education and Experience
Qualifications in mechatronics engineering or equivalent (BS EE. or equivalant)
3 to 5 years of experience in control systems development, delivering customer facing equipment.
Hands on experience in development, commissioning and optimization of equipment in the field.
Knowledge of sensing, data acquisition, actuators, industrial communications and control systems technologies. Hands on experience.
Understanding of and experience with embedded systems such as microcontroller & embedded PC controlled devices.
Electronic device protection, shielding and noise minimisation concepts and implementation details.
Proven ability to understand, analyse and communicate system processes, technology and specifications to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Strong knowledge of system analysis and solution development for equipment products and integration of distributed equipment products.
Strong knowledge of industry best practice in this space.
Knowledge of technical and safety standards and regulations in Weir’s field of business.
Sound knowledge of documentation methodologies including systems architecture diagrams, schematics and system block diagrams.
Strong documentation skills in relation to requirements capture and writing technical specifications.
Proven experience designing, developing and commissioning control
Knowledge of Minerals control processing equipment considered very beneficial but not essential

Will be based in St. Louis, Missouri with 20-40% domestic & international travel. Mix of office and field work with occasional work in hot and cold environments.
