Associate Manager HSE


The primary responsibilities of this role, Associate Manager Health Safety and Environment (HSE), are to:

  • Be responsible for the Safety program management including the development, implementation, and evaluation of high hazard compliance programs (e.g., fall protection and elevated work, ladder programs, scaffolds, aerial lifts, etc.) and site procedures to assure personnel, contractor and facility safety;

  • Be accountable for Facilities project safety (HSE reviews, review of construction documents, planning, construction and renovation projects and work in progress audits) for small and large-scale projects, technical projects;

  • Conduct incident investigations, near miss reviews, root cause analysis and trend analysis to identify corrective actions and track corrective actions to completion;

  • Serve as the Contractor Guest Leader for the STL operations managing the 850+ plus contract companies;

  • Work with all levels of the organizations to ensure compliance with company requirements for training, pre-qualification, pre-job reviews, and adherence to site policies and procedures;

  • Serve as Co-chair for the Technology Incident Prevention and Site Contractor Safety Committees;

  • Support other HSE committee efforts as needed;

  • Provide HSE support and assessments for high hazard research operations (i.e. high pressure environments, glyphosate, biologics);

  • Serve as the primary contact for analyzing trends in incident data for the STL HSE team as well as producing scorecards and timely reporting for various organizations and HSE committees;

  • Participate in incident response activities as a member and incident commander in the STL site emergency response team.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science OR Master of Science in Safety or related field of engineering, science or other technical discipline;

  • At least seven years of experience in safety, engineering or science discipline with five years direct experience managing HSE compliance programs;

  • Experience in dealing with a large multifunctional location with emphasis on Research and Development (R&D)/office environments, as well as VPP sites;

  • Thorough knowledge of OSHA and general working knowledge of EPA regulations;

  • Operate effectively in a team environment both within HSE and broadly across multifunctional groups;

  • Excellent communication capabilities both verbally and written, computer skills and experience working with databases;

  • Outcomes focused, organized and able to manage large complex projects with the ability to move swiftly to achieve objectives;

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and written with all levels of the organization with emphasis on the HSE community and management;

  • Effective organization, coordination and project management skills;

  • Demonstrated ability to influence without authority and lead in a highly matrixed environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certified Safety Professional.
