Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a full-time Biologist for immediate employment in our St Louis, MO office in the Central Region. The successful applicant will have significant experience in ecological assessment, permitting, and mitigation including for utility-scale electric transmission and oil and gas pipelines.

AECOM is seeking a dynamic individual, capable of conducting the work listed below with local knowledge of ecosystems; ability to lead field teams; someone who works well with others and is comfortable in small or large groups; and who can skillfully and efficiently prepare high quality technical documentation/reports/permit packages.

Responsibilities of this position will include, but not be limited to:

  • Conducting wetland delineations

  • Regulatory permitting

  • Wildlife habitat evaluation

  • Endangered species surveys

  • Impact assessment and mitigation planning

  • Restoration and mitigation site monitoring

  • Construction monitoring

  • Report preparation and interactions with state and federal agencies

  • Performing client visits and field activities and attending meetings with regulatory agencies that require work outside the office and overnight travel

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology or related environmental field

  • 5+ years of experience in ecology

  • Experience with utility-scale electric transmission and oil and gas providing ecological services, client engagement and development, and team building

  • Knowledge of environmental permitting, NEPA, relevant environmental regulations and processes, and related environmental considerations

  • Experience with permitting processes, including wetland/waters permitting, mitigation, and restoration

  • Experience working in a fast-paced consulting environment

  • High degree of self-motivation and the ability to work independently with limited supervision, as well as in a collaborative team environment

  • Excellent communication skills, including both oral and written

  • Good working knowledge of word processing and integrated software applications, including MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

  • Organizational management skills and ability to perform detail-oriented work

  • Strong skills in operating field sampling equipment including GPS and marine vessels

  • Position requires field work and candidate must be able to travel throughout the Midwest region

  • Must possess a valid driver's license

  • Due to the nature of the work, US Citizenship is required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Biology, Ecology, Natural Resources or related field

  • 8+ years of experience in ecology

  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers 40 hour wetland delineation training preferred

  • Knowledge of upper plains flora, fauna and natural systems preferred

  • Experience as a Project Manager or Deputy/Assistant Project Manager

  • Excellent technical writing skills and ability to effectively express his or herself orally among internal staff, clients, and sub-contractors

  • Experience with selling, conducting, leading, and delivering environmental permitting services, including ability to manage projects, interdisciplinary teams, and workload, as well as interface with clients

  • Demonstrated proposal writing skills, including competitive proposals

  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects to scope, schedule, and budget
