Description/Job Summary

Currently, HGL is seeking a highly motivated Civil/Environmental Engineer to join our team in St. Louis, Missouri. Our St Louis office is dedicated to supporting the USACE Formerly Utilized Site Remediation Program (FUSRAP) involved in the cleanup of radiological contamination. We are looking for an energetic individual to apply and expand their knowledge and capability working on complex environmental projects with a collaborative multi-disciplinary project team.


The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Working with Geologist, CAD and GIS professionals in preparing and interpreting the results of environmental investigations and characterization studies of soil, sediment and surface water;

  • Working with Engineers, Geologists, Project Managers and other technical staff in the development of studies and strategies for remediation of contaminated media;

  • Development of engineering studies, plans, designs and specifications for the remediation of environmental contamination;

  • Development cost estimates and construction workplans for remedial construction;

  • Providing technical support during the construction/implementation of engineering designs;

Required Skills

  • Excellent communication and organization skills;

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Projects including Word, Excel and PowerPoint;

  • Ability to interpret data and formulate conclusions and technical approaches;

  • Ability to work independently and develop design drawings from conceptual models required;

  • Must be able to execute multiple projects and tasks concurrently.

Preferred Skills

Experience developing and working with surveying/mapping data, grading plans, vertical and horizontal alignments, cross-sections, three-dimensional surfaces, and earthwork volumes for large civil designs.

Required Experience

Previous experience (5 years or more) of relevant environmental experience associated with investigations, reporting, engineering studies and/or construction.

Required Education

Bachelor's Degree in Environmental, Civil, Chemical, or Geotechnical Engineering or related field.

Preferred Education

Master's Degree in Environmental, Civil, Chemical, or Geotechnical Engineering or related field.

Required Qualifications

Professional Engineer (P.E) or ability to obtain within one year.

Preferred Qualifications

Working knowledge of ArcGIS or AutoCAD software and integration with field GPS data collection activities and 40 Hour HAZWOPER certification.


A pre-hire drug test is required, and some positions require a baseline physical exam. Some positions may require US Citizenship.Local travel in the St. Louis area and vicinity will be required.
