Monsanto is seeking an exceptional talented Data Scientist to join the Asia and Africa Breeding Team, located at our research headquarters in Chesterfield, Missouri . As part of our diverse and highly dynamic group, you will work side-by-side with teams of exceptional data analytics, data scientists, data manager, pipeline managers and breeders with diverse backgrounds to foster your career growth and development.

The successful candidate will utilize his/her technical skills and knowledge to develop solutions and accelerate breeding product testing and deployment. In addition to their strong technical skills, the successful candidate must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, a proven track record of solving challenging and complex problems, as well as a strong commitment to achieving results.

The dates for this summer internship are May 3 – August 2 of 2019.

The Data Science intern will:

  • Build and validate predictive models incorporating key breeding data, soil, weather, and environmental data

  • Demonstrate the application of the models and deploy them to stakeholders

Required Skills:

  • Currently pursuing an advanced degree (MS or PhD) in Computer Science, Statistics, Data Science, Mathematics, Computational Biology or related discipline

  • Proficiency in Machine learning and Statistics algorithms and concepts (Mixed Models, Random Forest, Deep Learning, SVM, etc.)

  • Strong programming skills in R, Python, SQL, Linux

  • Experience with cloud computing, such as Hadoop, Spark

  • Problem-solving ability and experience analyzing and presenting complex data

  • Organizational, interpersonal, and written and communication skills

Desired Skills:

  • Willingness to extend own data science and statistical interests to agriculture and/or experience working with agricultural/biological scientific data

  • Ability to solve challenging and complex analytical problems
