Monsanto Genetic Pipeline Design Lead in ST. LOUIS, Missouri

The Analytics and Pipeline Design (APD) team is seeking a Genetic Pipeline Design Lead to accelerate the impact of new technologies in our Global Breeding programs.

This role will lead teams charged with truly creative, innovative applications of quantitative genetics, population genetics, modeling and simulation and breeding methodologies to transform plant breeding. The incumbent will have access to state of the art analytics platforms, historical testing FIXX data, genomic and phenomic datasets, and a field testing network. 

The outcomes of this work should significantly change and impact all aspects of the future design of ongoing breeding programs. As part of the Analytics and Pipeline Design team, this role will collaborate extensively with data scientists, molecular diagnostic and genomics teams, imaging and environmental scientists, plant health researchers, field testing teams, and plant breeders. This person will contribute to research and development across the breeding organization on all row crops including corn and soybean.  

Responsibilities include:

  • Leading multiple teams of scientists in designing and executing studies aimed at solving complex plant breeding problems

  • Serving as a thought leader for truly innovative ideas for long term impact on breeding methods

  • Partnering with other functions working on genome design, precision breeding, phenomics and data science to ensure collaborative development of tools and techniques

  • Contributing as a member of APD initiative teams working on multiple Global Breeding strategy areas

  • Developing strong partnerships with other teams in Global Breeding and Biotechnology to ensure broad utility and impact of results

  • Developing a broad knowledge of global internal and external advances and plans pertaining to new breeding methodologies and tools

Required Skills/Experience:

  • Minimum of PhD in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Molecular Genetics, Genomics, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Evolutionary Biology or related field

  • Minimum of 8 or more years of related experience

  • Prior experience as a direct supervisor leading and interacting with complex teams of scientists

  • Strong knowledge of genetics and statistics

  • Excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills

  • Experience presenting results to varied audiences & influencing project direction/strategy

  • Demonstrated ability to foster & maintain relationships at all levels of the organization, and with external partners

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in a team-based and cross-functional environment

  • Ability to travel independently (domestic and international)

Desired Skills/Experience:

  • Strong knowledge of algorithms and exploratory data analyses
