Monsanto Nursery Solutions Lead in ST. LOUIS, Missouri
The Trait and Pipeline Delivery (TPD) organization plays a foundational role in Global Plant Breeding through the creation of new germplasm, integration of traits to create products, and delivery of seed for all stages of the R&D pipeline to support testing. TPD leverages a global footprint and innovation in key initiatives, including protected culture, prescriptive planning and nursery design, and commitment to culture and leveraging diversity, to continue to build towards the future of plant breeding. The Nursery Solutions team will be focused on driving improvement across several key areas to ensure step change innovation in the way we deliver products, to include protected culture systems, agronomy, process engineering, and applied reproductive biology.
We are seeking an individual to lead the newly created, multi-disciplinary Nursery Solutions team. This position will be responsible for driving strategic innovation, optimization, and automation in all areas of seed production and will partner closely with IT, analytics, and automation engineering teams to co-create and implement solutions. The Nursery Solutions Lead will be a part of the TPD leadership team and will further contribute to the strategy of the overall organization and especially to the development of people, teams, and culture.
Develop technical strategy to ensure delivery and optimization of seed production needs over 5-10-year business LRP to include agronomic, automation, and reproductive biology needs.
Ensure successful implementation and optimization of protected culture systems in Arizona, Puerto Rico, Petrolina and future locations.
Assess new protected culture opportunities and make investment recommendations. Provide detailed experimental and financial data to support.
Optimize existing and new workflows in seed production, seed processing, and deployment of molecular breeding tools through process engineering and use of analytics. Co-develop and execute analytics strategy with the Analytics & Pipeline Design team.
Test new breeding methods at scale in preparation for deployment in seed production regions.
Partner with Production Research in Supply Chain to share insights and best practices in seed production and exploit shared interest and investment in seed production technology.
Identify new trends, test, and deploy new research equipment in seed production, processing, and imagery to increase efficiency and sustainability in nursery operations.
Develop people and teams in alignment with Global Breeding values and vision.
Co-develop overall Trait and Pipeline Delivery strategy.
PhD in breeding, agronomy, biology or related discipline; MS or BS with relevant experience.
Broad technical expertise in agronomy, automation, and reproductive biology with demonstrated ability to re-imagine workflows and apply innovative technology to solve business challenges.
Strong communication and collaboration skills
Understanding of the breeding pipeline and ability to deduce key technical challenges in delivering the business LRP
Strong ability to develop people and teams, especially across geographies and cultures.
