Essential Functions

The Participation, Environment and Performance Laboratory at Washington University in St. Louis is recruiting a full-time postdoctoral research associate. These individuals will be a part of a highly collaborative and collegial team of scientists and trainees from diverse backgrounds interested in occupational therapy research in aging. The primary task of the postdoctoral research associate will be to conduct research in the area of function and the environment for cognitively normal older adults aging in place. The role involves working in a team-based environment and collaborating with different researchers on a range of projects. The research includes analysis and preparation of manuscripts for publication based on data from clinical studies, as well as the preparation and submission of grant proposals. Our current projects include a phase IIb trial of an occupational therapy transition program for individuals post stroke and an implementation trial of an occupational therapy home hazard removal program to prevent falls among underserved community dwelling older adults. Additional research focuses on identifying functional changes over time in a cohort of older adults with and without preclinical Alzheimer’s Disease.

The program is situated in the School of Medicine at Washington University in St. Louis. We offer comprehensive training in clinical translational research. Our research focuses on the unique contribution that the environment can make toward improving the performance, participation and quality of life for persons living with functional limitations. We believe the environment accounts for the differences between what individuals are capable of doing and their actual participation in society. An exploration of the physical environment as influencing behavior is the basis of research questions designed to explore the impact of the person/environment interface.
