Job Type/Schedule

This position is full-time and works approximately 40 hours per week.

Department Name/Job Location

This position is in the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases. This position is for the Medical School Campus. Works for short periods (no more than 4 weeks per year) in developing countries.

Essential Functions


We are seeking a Research Assistant with a strong background in microbiology, immunology and/or molecular biology to assist with infectious diseases research projects. They will join a research team to identify biomarkers for infections, and they will help to establish a sample archive for clinical specimens.


  1. Conducts research experiments and assays.
  2. Evaluates research results, reports findings and discusses project outcomes with staff and supervisors.
  3. Performs data entry and maintains data files on research.
  4. Complies with established safety procedures and maintains required documentation on laboratory and specimen conditions.
  5. Coordinates research projects with other institutions and investigators.
  6. Participates in developing hypotheses to be tested and ways of testing it.
  7. Assists with general supply/equipment orders, lab maintenance and cleaning.
  8. Performs literature reviews on specified topics.

Required Qualifications

Equivalent of a bachelor’s degree with two to three years of experience in laboratory operations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong background in microbiology, immunology and/or molecular biology.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement general laboratory procedures, conduct research, and record findings, with a focus on pursuit of advanced education in field.

Salary Range

The hiring range for this position is $15.46 - $20.88 per hour

This position works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards. The individual must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals.
