Job Type/Schedule This position is full-time and works approximately 40 hours per week. Department Name/Job Location This position is in the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Oncology. This position is for the Medical School Campus. Essential Functions POSITION SUMMARY: There is an opportunity for research in the laboratory of Dr. DeNardo. In general, the laboratory looks at understanding how immune responses shape and are shaped by malignancies (cancer). Where possible, our hope is to exploit these weaknesses to improve patient outcomes by enhancing response to conventional, targeted, or immunotherapeutics. At current the laboratory focuses heavily on immunotherapy and immunotherapy responsiveness. Position assists with small animal studies, experiments, preparation of material and documentation, and handles correlative analysis on human clinical samples. This is a laboratory research position and personnel would work as part of a larger team. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Conducts and assists in cancer research experiments. 2. Handles clinical sample studies, performs data entry and maintains data files. 3. Evaluates research results, reporting findings and discussing project outcomes with staff involved. 4. Performs mouse genotyping, and/or small animal surgery, and relays results to team members. 5. Coordinates tissue cultures, reagents, probe tests, etc. 6. Coordinates research project with other investigators at WUSM or pharma-industry partners. 7. Complies with established safety procedures and maintains required documentation on laboratory and specimen conditions. 8. Participates in developing hypotheses to be tested and ways of testing it. 9. Assists with general supply/equipment orders, lab maintenance and cleaning. 10. Performs literature searches on specified topics. Required Qualifications Equivalent of a bachelor’s degree with two to three years of experience in laboratory operations. Preferred Qualifications * Demonstrated ability to implement general laboratory procedures, conduct research, and record findings, with a focus on pursuit of advanced education in field. * Demonstrated ability to work independently and communicate with laboratory staff and investigators. * Ability to maintain complete and organized records/reports. * Working knowledge of computer software and general lab equipment. Salary Range The hiring range for this position is $15.46 - $20.88 per hour.
