Monsanto is at the leading edge of using new technologies to harness the genetic potential of entire crop genomes. Molecular Breeding Technology (MBT) is the global organization that provides this capability through the delivery of high throughput seed chipping and genotyping data, development of new platforms and processes for genome analysis, and development of new tools and information for selection in the breeding and biotechnology pipelines. We currently have an opening for a Research Associate in the St. Louis/Woodland/Brazil Production Genotyping Platform as a part of the MBT Program. The position will be located in Chesterfield, MO.

This individual will be responsible for the intake and shipping/receiving of samples for the MBT St. Louis production labs. He or she will operate independently, work collaboratively with other team members to deliver daily targets, and identify and implement process improvements.

Responsibilities include:

  • Delivering daily targets for lab sample intake and shipping/receiving including unpacking and verifying samples, creating and tracking shipments to and from the labs.

  • Leading optimization projects through completion such as identifying areas for shipment improvement (e.g. RFID) then driving implementation and project success.

  • Monitoring our lab intake and processing health – partnering with our in-house data science team to drive creation of new analytics and ensure adoption.

  • Achieving commitment to safety and adherence to safety protocols and best practices.

  • Solving problems related to logistics and shipping using multiple data sources and resources.

  • Making data-driven decisions within day to day activities and planning for longer term projects.

  • Adhering to established protocols and good laboratory practice techniques.

  • Prioritizing, coordinating, and delegating work within a large team.

The successful candidate will thrive on meeting production challenges, insist on high quality deliverables, demonstrate effective problem-solving skills, and possess the ability to build productive external and internal relationships.

Required Education and Skills:

  • BS/BA in a biological, engineering, or related field

  • 2 years of experience working in a laboratory, manufacturing, or similar sample processing facility

  • Proficiency with experimental design, data analysis, and troubleshooting

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, and Excel

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to build strong relationships and networks across functions, shifts, sub-teams, and sites

Desired Education and Skills:

  • 2 years of experience in logistics or shipping/receiving

  • Experience partnering with analytics or data science teams

  • Proficiency creating data visualizations in Excel, Spotfire, Tableau, or other software to answer scientific questions
