Essential Functions

The lab of Professor Geoff Goodhill is relocating to Washington University from Australia, and is looking for a Research Technician/Research Assistant/Senior Research Assistant/Research Specialist to provide support for the lab's experiments examining behavior and neural circuits in larval zebrafish, including autism mutants. These experiments include high-speed imaging of hunting behavior, and 2-photon and light sheet microscopy to record neural activity via fluorescent calcium indicators.

Required Qualifications

Candidates with at least a bachelor's degree in a scientific discipline and prior experience in relevant laboratory techniques are encouraged to apply.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in animal care and handling, ideally including zebrafish breeding, feeding and washing of embryos, maintaining live fish food, and genotyping.
  • Experience with fluorescence microscopy.
  • Experience with managing lab supplies and expenses.
  • High level of organization, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Adaptability and ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Working knowledge of standard computer software and general lab equipment.
  • For appointment at higher levels, experience with zebrafish behavioral imaging and 2-photon or light sheet microscopy.

Salary Range

Base pay commensurate with experience.

Department Summary

The Department of Developmental Biology encompasses a group of faculty with primary interests and expertise in developmental biology, stem cell biology, physiology and aging. At present, the principal research activities of this department are focused on the profoundly complex challenge of attaining a mechanistic understanding of organogenesis, encompassing the earliest developmental processes in the embryo, organism and cellular physiology, and tissue homeostasis and repair. The ultimate goal is to understand development and physiology in enough detail to recapitulate organogenesis in vitro and to generate replacement tissues that function in vivo. This long-term goal has immense potential benefit for human health. A comprehensive understanding and integration of developmental biology, stem cell biology, physiology and aging will facilitate translational approaches to preventing and treating a variety of genetic, developmental, metabolic and neurological diseases, and cancer.

The Department of Neuroscience focuses on the neuroscience of brain development and function, with special emphasis on discovering and elucidating the fundamental mechanisms that govern neural circuit assembly and activity. The Department also features research at the interface of neuroscience with neuropsychiatry, with particular relevance to intellectual disability and autism spectrum disorders.
