Job Type/Schedule

This position is full-time and works approximately 40 hours per week.

This position is in the Department of Anesthesiology WU Pain Center. This position is for the Medical School Campus.

Essential Functions


This position is responsible for assisting with laboratory duties in a neuroscience research setting. Performs routine tests with direction from the supervisor, manager or senior-level technician.


  1. Assists the principal investigator, senior technician, and other laboratory members with research studies, experiments and assays, including collection of data, preparation of solutions, set-up, ordering, and maintenance of equipment.
  2. Maintains detailed lab notebook containing research data and assists with data entry.
  3. Assists with general lab maintenance and cleaning/organization.

Required Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent high school certification.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry or a related area.
  • Ability and strong desire to learn new research techniques, including molecular, cellular, and comfortable with animal techniques. These include: DNA isolation methods, PCR, gel electrophoresis, genotyping, mouse genetics, cell culture, and animal behavior.
  • Comfortable working with mouse genetics.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain complete and organized records/reports.
  • Background in the biological sciences and prior laboratory experience and/or coursework.
  • Working knowledge of computer software (Word, Excel, etc.).

Salary Range

The hiring range for this position is $13.80 - $15.97 per hour.

This position works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards. The individual must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals.
