Job Type/Schedule This position is full-time and works approximately 40 hours per week. Department Name/Job Location This position is in the Department of Pathology & Immunology, Division of Neuropathology. This position is for the Medical School Campus. Essential Functions POSITION SUMMARY: The present opening is for a highly motivated individual to work at the interface of genomics and neurobiology studying the development and diseases of the visual system in fish, bird and mammalian models and to help to develop cures for blindness. The lab is an exciting, fast-paced research environment with a team of highly motivated undergraduate students, graduate students and postdocs. As part of this work, you will have the potential opportunity to participate in both national and international collaborations. This position assists with the technical aspects of studies and experiments, including documentation and preparation of materials. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Assists with research studies, experiments and assays, including animal husbandry, collection of data, preparation of solutions and set-up and maintenance of equipment. 2. Performs data entry and maintains data files on research. 3. Prepares tissue cultures, reagents, probe tests, etc. 4. Complies with established safety procedures and maintains required documentation on laboratory and specimen conditions. 5. Ensures lab conditions and equipment are properly cleaned and maintained in accordance with established procedures. 6. Assists with general lab maintenance and cleaning. 7. Performs other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree and up to one year of experience in a laboratory setting or an equivalent combination of education and experience equaling four years. Preferred Qualifications * Undergraduate degree in biological sciences. * Enthusiasm and eagerness for science. * General knowledge of molecular and cellular biology (at the level of someone who has completed an undergraduate major in this area). * Demonstrated ability to work independently and communicate with laboratory staff and investigators. * Ability to maintain complete and organized records/reports. * Working knowledge of computer software and general lab equipment. Salary Range The hiring range for this position is $14.07 - $18.99 per hour.
