Job Type/Schedule This position is full-time and works approximately 40 hours per week. Department Name/Job Location This position is in the Department of Pediatrics, Division of Endocrinology & Diabetes. This position is for the Medical School Campus. Essential Functions POSITION SUMMARY: The Stone lab is interested in using cutting-edge molecular biology and genetic approaches to study rare disorders that cause severe insulin resistance and diabetes. By understanding these conditions, we hope to offer new treatments for patients with diabetes and metabolic syndrome. We are seeking a full-time technician to assist us with these projects. Currently we are using both in vitro and in vivotechniques. Therefore, the technician will gain experience working with both tissue culture and mouse models of diabetes. This position assists with the technical aspects of studies and experiments, including documentation and preparation of materials. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Assists with research studies, experiments and assays including collection of data, preparation of solutions and set-up and maintenance of equipment. 2. Assists with the maintenance of transgenic mouse colony. This includes mouse husbandry, genotyping, and monitoring. 3. Maintains accurate database of mouse colony. Performs data entry and maintain data files on research. 4. Assists with mouse studies,_ in vitro_ studies, processing tissues for histology sections, immunohistochemistry, western immunoblotting, and quantitative real-time PCR. 5. Prepares tissue culture, reagents, probe tests, etc. Maintains cell lines and frozen stocks. 6. Complies with established safety procedures and maintains required documentation on laboratory and specimen conditions. 7. Ensures lab conditions and equipment are properly cleaned and maintained in accordance with established procedures. 8. Assists with general lab maintenance, cleaning, purchasing and preparing reagents and consumables. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree and up to one year of experience in a laboratory setting or an equivalent combination of education and experience equaling four years. Preferred Qualifications * Demonstrated ability to work independently and communicate with laboratory staff and investigators. * Ability to maintain complete and organized records/reports. * Working knowledge of computer software and general lab equipment. Salary Range The hiring range for this position is $14.07 - $18.99 per hour.
