Job Type/Schedule This position is full-time and works approximately 40 hours per week. Hours are generally normal business hours but may vary due to the timing for experiments and other research activity deadlines. Department Name/Job Location This position is in the Department of Pediatrics, Division of Rheumatology. This position is for the Medical School Campus. Essential Functions POSITION SUMMARY: This position assists with the technical aspects of studies and experiments, including documentation and preparation of materials. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Assists the investigator or supervisor with research studies, experiments and assays, including maintaining a mouse colony, working with mice on a daily basis, collection and organization of data, some analysis of experiments, preparation of solutions and set-up and maintenance of equipment. 2. Assists with experiments, including PCR reactions, isolating immune cells, and flow cytometry. 3. Performs data entry and maintains data files on research. 4. Prepares tissue cultures and reagents. 5. Complies with established safety procedures and maintains required documentation on laboratory and specimen conditions. 6. Ensures lab conditions and equipment are properly maintained in accordance with established procedures. 7. Assists with general lab maintenance and cleaning. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree and up to one year of experience in a laboratory setting or an equivalent combination of education and experience equaling four years. Preferred Qualifications * Prior experience with or exposure to mouse handling/procedures/working in a mouse colony. * Prior experience with cellular biology techniques, including cell culture. * Experience or training in a scientific field. * Good math skills. * Demonstrated ability to work independently and communicate with laboratory staff and investigators. * Ability to maintain complete and organized records/reports. * Working knowledge of computer software and general lab equipment. Salary Range The hiring range for this position is $14.07 - $18.99 per hour.
