PSC Metals, LLC is presently searching for aShredder Supervisorto join our team at our St. Louis, Missouri facility.

The Shredder Supervisor is responsible to ensure safe and efficient operations of shredding operations in conjunction with Facility Manager, and in accordance with Company standards and procedures. Directs all activities of the shredding operations in a manner to ensure the efficiency and success of all operations, inventory accuracy, comprehensive maintenance programs, oversight of associated personnel and equipment, and overall responsibility for production volumes, quality, operating costs and profitability.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Environmental and Health & Safety

a. Responsible for safety and environmental compliance across the shredder operations. In conjunction with the Facility Manager and HSE Managers, leads safety improvement activities and is an active and engaged participant in PSC Metals' safety program.

b. Strictly adheres to all PSC Metals' Health, Safety and Environmental standards.

c. Provides a safe environment for all employees, customers and visitors.

d. Coordinates employee corrective actions for safety infractions with HR.

  1. Operational Performance & Best Business Practices

a. Directly oversees management of production and maintenance staff of shredding operation across multiple shifts. To include staffing, performance management, training and development, and associated personnel decisions.

b. Sets operating schedules, daily and monthly production goals, and operating processes in conjunction with Facility Manager and other facility management staff.

c. Uses metrics including tons/hour, downtime percentage, NF pounds recovered, operating costs, etc. to measure performance and quality of shredding operations.

d. Prepares and monitors monthly operating costs for shredding operations.

e. Responsible for documenting and maintaining production records.

f. Ensures outbound product standards are met for applicable steel mill specifications.

g. Identifies, quantifies and drives evaluation of new technology for future implementation at the shredder. Participates fully in company-wide committees on shredder as requested, and shares own and implement others' best practices to improve performance.

h. Trained to function occasionally as backup to daily Shredder Operator; may also occasionally operate yard equipment and assist in performance of light equipment maintenance.

I. In conjunction with Transportation staff, manages trucking and rail transportation activities related to shredding operation.

j. Schedule and coordinate visits and meetings with management, third party contractors, vendors and suppliers, engineering firs, and equipment manufacturers.

k. Monitors operations to ensure employees adhere to established policies, procedures, safety guidelines, and state and federal regulations, providing guidance or counseling when needed.

l. Arranges for worker training in safety, repair, maintenance, equipment use, or operational procedures.

m. Perform all other duties as assigned.

  1. Equipment & Maintenance

a. Directs preventative and emergency maintenance activities for the shredder to improve both availability and costs.

b. Monitors and inspects allocated department equipment to ensure all assets are working within stated guidelines.

c. Coordinates order of spare or replacement parts and maintains inventory of incoming and existing parts to ensure production needs are met.

d. Maintain log and condition reports of borrowed and used equipment, and ensure equipment operators complete and submit Daily Equipment Inspection reports.

e. Report all equipment deficiencies or malfunctions for maintenance or repair to the proper supervisor.

  1. Financial/Budgeting

a. Operates shredding operations within established operating and CapEx budgets and makes recommendations for capital expenditures; taking into account operational needs, equipment condition, environmental priorities, and ability to sustain business operations and growth. Participates in annual budget process and communicates financial performance versus budget review as requested.

EDUCATION/SKILLS/WORK EXPERIENCE

  • High School diploma or GED is required.

  • Associates or Bachelor's degree preferred, but not required.

  • Minimum of 3-5 years' of shredder operations experience, and 3 year's experience supervising personnel an direct responsibility for performance of a heavy equipment production operation. Must be familiar with mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and large motor subsystem, as well as, metals recycling operations and shredders.

  • Proficiency of Microsoft Office - Word/Excel/Outlook

PHYSICAL/ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS

  • Exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects.

  • Facility Manager is subject to both environmental conditions: activities occur inside and outside. In addition, Shredder Supervisor is subject to noise.
