This position is full-time and works approximately 40 hours per week.

This position is in the Department of Pathology and Immunology, Division of Anatomic and Molecular Pathology. This position is for the Medical School Campus.

Essential Functions


Assists in developing and conducting research projects, including experiment design, data analysis, documentation, and communication of clinical and experiment results. This position will provide clinical and scientific support to the Hematopathology Service in the Department of Pathology and Immunology at Washington University.


  1. Following instructions and discussions with the Hematopathology section head, designs research protocols, including developing procedures for the collection, verification, organization and management of patient data.
  2. Assists with grant preparation and clinical reporting.
  3. Performs complex analysis of data collected and writes interpretative clinical reports. This includes, but is not limited to, the evaluation of bone marrow biopsies, flow cytometry reports, comprehensive clinical case reports, and other ancillary hematologic testings. Verifies the correctness of the data submitted and makes recommendations based on these analyses. Uses Microsoft Office Suite and able to learn LIS, EMR, and other computer software as needed.
  4. Documents research topics and prepares and submits papers based on research work to publications and committees for publication or presentation to peers.
  5. Solves practical problems relating to difficulties with the Hematopatholgy service. Suggests technical or procedural improvements in methods.
  6. Conducts literature searches related to research project.

Required Qualifications

Master’s degree with four years of experience in research lab operations or an equivalent combination of education and experience equaling nine years.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree with five years of experience in research lab operations or an equivalent combination of education and experience equaling twelve years.
  • Analytical, reasoning and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret statistical data and to communicate data in a clear, concise manner.
  • Computer literacy including the ability to use a variety of software packages.

Salary Range

The hiring range for this position is $46,779 - $63,170 annually.
