Job Type/Schedule This position is full-time and works approximately 40 hours per week. Department Name/Job Location This position is in the Department of Pediatrics, Division of Newborn Medicine. This position is for the Medical School Campus. Essential Functions POSITION SUMMARY: This laboratory is seeking a highly motivated individual to work as a Staff Scientist in a laboratory that studies alpha-1-antitrypsin deficiency and other proteopathies. The primary goal of the laboratory is to identify therapeutic drugs to treat these proteopathies by utilizing various disease models in cells and mice. This position assists in developing and conducting research projects, including experimental design, data analysis and documentation of experimental results. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Assesses drug effects on cells and carries out detailed follow-up studies. 2. Following instructions and discussions with principal investigator, designs research protocols, including developing procedures for the collection, verification and management of data. 3. Assists with grant preparation and reporting. 4. Performs complex statistical analysis of data collected and writes interpretative reports. 5. Documents research and assists in the preparation and submission of manuscripts for publication. 6. Presents findings at meetings and conferences. 7. Conducts literature searches related to research project. Required Qualifications Master’s degree with four years of experience in a research lab operations or an equivalent combination of education and experience equaling nine years. Preferred Qualifications * Experience with molecular biology, cell culture, transfections and immunoblotting is desired. * Analytical, reasoning and problem-solving skills. * Ability to analyze and interpret statistical data and to communicate data in a clear, concise manner. * Computer literacy, including the ability to use a variety of software packages to analyze data. Salary Range The hiring range for this position is $46,779 - $63,170 annually.
