Job Summary

AECOM is seeking a Structural Engineer to be based in our St. Louis, Missouri location.

Position Description or Typical Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates the discipline's engineering with that of other disciplines.

  • Maintains records, files and other documents pertaining to the discipline.

  • Assists the Project Engineering Manager in identifying the engineering documents that must comply with regulatory/licensing requirements.

  • Assumes “in charge” responsibility for ensuring that engineering documents comply with applicable state laws/regulations, including affixing registered engineer seal when required.

  • May manage groups of engineers, designers and/or specialists with minimal guidance or supervision.

  • Works toward achieving compatibility of customer's and company’s objectives.

  • Assigns preparers and checkers for discipline specifications and coordinates review of external specifications.

  • Establishes schedules and budgets to meet project requirements and obtains approval.

  • Maintains technical coordination with the Principal Engineer to ensure adherence to industry codes, regulatory requirements and sound engineering practices.

  • Coordinates engineering activities for a discipline with those of other disciplines on the project.

  • Directs the preparation and submits periodic reports and forecasts on the status of the discipline.

  • Schedules, directs and documents discipline engineering meetings between project management, client, vendors and other engineering groups.

  • Complies with state requirements for continuing education, maintains and obtains licenses as requested.

  • Continually upgrades technical knowledge and capabilities and pursues additional coursework and training.

  • Advises the Project Engineering Manager regarding status of assignment(s) with respect to schedule, budgets, delays and adverse problems.

  • Works closely with Chief Discipline Engineers, Principal Engineers and Project Engineering Managers on employees’ evaluations and promotions and the overall technical improvement of the group.

  • Fully versed in the work sequence, general content, and methods used to generate specifications for the purchase of material, equipment, systems, services, or construction within engineer's discipline.

  • Fully versed in the process of preparing and checking of calculations as well as the approval, revision, retention and storage of calculations within a specific discipline.

  • Fully versed in interpreting codes and permitting as it relates to a specific discipline.

  • Ensures quality, quantity and completeness of the assigned engineering tasks.

  • Fully understands the role of each functional area within the company.

  • Conforms to company core values and assists others to adhere to them.

  • Acts with integrity in all elements of responsibility.

  • Expresses ideas clearly and listens effectively to the ideas of others.

Minimum Requirements

Education:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil/Structural Engineering from an accredited four-year college or university.

Experience:

  • 5 years of experience preparing engineering calculations, specifications and drawings for industrial structures.

  • Experience utilizing structural analysis software packages.

  • Experience with industrial tank foundations/supports.

  • Professional Engineering License in US

  • Computer proficient in MS Office, Adobe Pro

Preferred Qualifications

Education:

  • Master of Science in Civil Engineering Degree (Structural emphasis) from an accredited college or university

Experience

  • Using software such as MathCad and StaadPro

  • Experience with CAD software such as AutoCad, Revit and Microstation
