Responsible for the effective use of personnel, material, and equipment. Participates in the training, developing and evaluating of hourly team members. Participates in the development of highly effective teams. Leads Global Manufacturing Systems(GMS) processes and serves as resource supporting launch and pilot activities in assigned areas. Meets or exceeds production cost schedule and maintains quality requirements. Maintains awareness of quality standards, and communicates department quality goals, and leverages resources to solve quality issues. Builds and maintains good working relationships with employees, union and management. Understands and consistently administer the National and Local Agreements between General Motors and the United Auto Workers Union. Implements and follows systems that prevent reoccurrence of known issues. Promote safe work practices and achieve objectives for ergonomics, health and safety and housekeeping. Motivates, trains and develops employees to effectively perform their jobs utilizing standardized methods. Ensure team members receive adequate JIT (job instruction training). Achieve production schedules and product requirements by applying lean manufacturing/synchronous principles with emphasis on variation reduction, control costs, and achieve productivity improvements. Coach, teach, counsel and mentor Group Leaders in these responsibilities.
Additional Job Description
The Electrical Diagnostician role is a key position at launch to support the plant in achieving electrical first time quality (E-FTQ) glide path. The primary responsibility is supporting electrical end of line (EOL) repair process.
Launch (New, major, VIP)
6 months prior to IVER for training
Released at launch team release or when targets are meet EFTQ/DRR
Complete required training at various sites around GM and suppliers, travel required -Electrical College
Learn new technologies associated with VIP Electrical Architecture and effectively transfer key learnings to appropriate plant team members
Off shift voice for Electrical Team, support all functions on the off shifts feed forward issues the Electrical Team
Ensure documentation (schematics, etc.) to help with early in plant builds for repairing new product, working with the PPO Lab Check team during IV Build at PPO for identification of faults and fixes.
Document all Lab Check failures with PRTS, and work with Software IRT prior to IV exit for a planned demonstration date
Support EOL test event at Milford (region specific location)
Work with the Electrical IRT team to resolve EOL issues
Document lessons learned for process and product improvements. Read across to other Diagnosticians
Utilizes the plant quality reporting systems (i.e. GSIP/MERS/PRTS) to identify and eliminate process / product variation.
Utilizes the applicable plant testing systems (ie GBFTT, AVT, DVT) to improve and correlate plant electrical performance
Reports pass rate performance for all applicable in plant testing systems (ie GBFTT, AVT, and DVT) and leads corrective action plans.
Support GCA with electrical issues – first responder (verify failure mode), support root cause and feedback to the owner on the Electrical Team (Factor 20/50)
Help support repair team members in reporting incorrect schematics to service for correction
Support repair team in gaining access to external systems (MERS/Service Information)
Lead disconnect workshop during launch to develop database for repair faults (knowledge-based repair systems) in GSIP between PVBns and PVBs
Support training for repairmen on service diagnostic tools (i.e. GDS2/MDI/Buffalo, via Raytheon or applicable company).
Key contact for Final Process Repairman helping with training, troubleshooting vehicle issues, repair root cause entry into GSIP, Service Information schematic and other issues, Plant repair diagnostic tool (GDS2/MDI) and reporting systems.
Lead Electrical troubleshooting efforts for VIP for the plant:
Diagnostic Trouble Shooting/ Support No Trouble Found process
BoO-Electrical - 322 - Electrical End of Line Tracker
This role does not replace the need for Final Process Group Leader
Coordinate the collection of key learnings from plants launching VIP prior to your site - Make sure they are implemented at your site
Create electrical repair standardized work (Final Repair)
Support Proper GSIP Documentation (Upload Defect Pictures in GSIP)
Track all diagnostics issues to closure prior to SORP
Will report to the Lead Launch Electrical Coordinator
Lessons learned with multiple shifts will have a Lead Diagnostician and the off shifts will report to this person. This should be the person that comes on 6 months prior to IV
Report out EFTQ Launch performance on a weekly basis -Launch Wall
Daily tracking report to show the status of each vehicle at each test station (Standard format in MERS)
Root cause analysis reports for top electrical issues for launch team
Track all diagnostics issues to closure prior to SORP
Minimum 3 years previous experience with automotive electrical sub-systems
Strong interpersonal and team building skills
Strong written and oral communication skills
Strong analytical ability
Able to make decisions quickly with a high level of confidence
Must be able to continually innovate
Must be able to help root cause highly complex issues and work well with Product and AVG Engineers and then translate executive summaries to non-technical people
Thorough working knowledge of GMS as well supporting BIQ4 Deliverables
Prior manufacturing plant experience in either Electrical or Plant Floor Operations
DVT Experience or Electrical Engineering
Supervisory role on plant floor, experience with managing UAW employees
Thorough knowledge of Manufacturing Requirements and how they impact the build process
